I have a 18-year-old niece who is studying in Beijing University. Though I live in China, it’s been 20years to be there when I was young. So my wife and I decided to go to Beijing during the weekends..

Nowadays. the traffic is more and more convenient for the people to go around the huge land in China. It took about 2 hours to get to Beijing by air from Shanghai Airport. The one way air-ticket is not so expensive, it cost me ï¿¥1,130(US$175) at that time, Oct. 2010.
Once arriving at Beijing,, we shopped supermarket for getting something needed for my niece. The supermarket was grand Shopping Mall named “WuMei Shopping Mall” if I remember correctly.

After having lunch, we went to Tiananmen Square by public bus with my niece accompanied as tour guide. The air conditioned bus charged me ï¿¥2(US$0.30).We took off the bus at the west gate of the square. Along the avenue in front of The Great Hall of the People, got to Changan Street close to Tiananmen Square. Again through the underground pass, arrived at our destination, the Westside of the square. We took a lot of pictures on our way to the square, but got puzzled on the objects like 〠Golden Stream Bridge〞,ã€Stone Lion〞,ã€stone pole〞until my niece told me story about them.
The Golden Stream was called as Royal Stream before. Seven jade bridges are lied across the stream. The center bridge which faces the Tiananmen main gate is named Lord Bridge. It was used only for the King and Queen. The bridges at both sides of. Lord Bridge were Royal Bridge for the Royal member. The other two outer bridges were Senior officials Bridges for the officials above ranking #3, . The ones under ranking #3 should go through the last bridges named Common Bridges.

There are pair of stone lions before Tiananmen Square. The Leone at the east side stepping a colorful ball stands for power. The Lioness at the west side twiddling with little lion stands for prospects of offspring.
The pair of stone poles which located separately at North and South gates were carved delicately with dragons on it.. In accordance with historical knowledge of my niece, it means for the Lord willing to accept the advice or opinions from the people nationwide.

Ok, after story of the puzzled objects, we kept heading to the Museum of the Chinese revolution. and the Museum of the Chinese history via the underground passage from the east side of Tiananmen Square. But unfortunately they are not opened to the public at that time, I did not check out the reason but they are normally open all the time. Then we headed for the Monument of the people’s heroes in front of the Tiananmen Castle, it was banned by metal chains rounding up the monument. We only took pictures over there for a while and back to hotel. .
