I have been translating from Spanish into English for about fifteen years. After living in Spain for eight years I spent three years in the US and have now been living in Mexico for ten years. Over the years I have taught English at universities and private language schools in Spain and Mexico, and Spanish on a private level. In recent years I have moved away from teaching to focus on my principal field of interest – Spanish to English translating.
I am very familiar with varieties of English and Spanish on both sides of the Atlantic. I have a Master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Nottingham (1994) and a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of North London (1987).
My fields of experience in translating from Spanish to English include:
• Social and economic • International Relations (see sample 1) • Corporate newsletters • Corporate training • Software agreements/contracts • Financial services/Banking • Trademark opposition (see sample 2) • Legal • Insurance • Travel and tourism (especially hotels, vacation rentals and resorts) • Politics • Human rights • Sociology • Academic • History • Literature and biographies (see sample 3)
This year I have translated a biography of José Guadalupe Posada for the Instituto Cultural de Aguascalientes, which has just been published. I have translated many corporate newsletters and training manuals for a multi-national company in Barcelona, general texts for an agency in Mexico City and vacation rental home descriptions for a website in Mexico.
I have transcribed recordings of Hispanic focus groups in the US discussing politics and social issues.
I have worked as an interpreter at a conference on tourism at the Universidad del Mar in Oaxaca, at the local court, and for groups of visitors on European Union local government exchanges in Seville, Spain.
I have taught English, History, and International Relations at university level in Mexico at the Tecnológico de Monterrey and English at the Universidad del Mar.
