Hi all,

I just saw the post for Framemaker - are there any new versions of Indesign that you can recommend. Currently I´m supposed to work on a new project with Indesign but I have an older version of it. Is there a new version and any possibility to upgrade my old version?

Should this be too cost-effective, are there any problems with the old version when I dont use the newer one?

Hi there,
it depends on what ID version you have. Upgrades are usually only possible between two neighbouring versions, e.g. from CS2 to CS3, or from CS3 to CS4. Not from CS2 to CS4. In this case, I believe (but am not 100% sure) you will have to buy a new license.
However, unless you work with InDesign regularly, I don't think it's worth the investment. As a translator, all you need is a CAT tool that can handle INX (InDesign exchange) files. A short list of them:
- Trados: opens INX well but may have problems exporting the TTX back to INX; filter very sensitive;
- MemoQ: very reliable, even with poorly-prepared INX files (embedded instead of referenced images, direct instead of referenced formatting etc.);
- Across: same as MemoQ;
- Transit: handles InDesign files very well, but the filter is damn expensive, around €1,000(!).

I hope this helps.
